Just started watching Gokusen (season 1) and omg, am I loving it. The last episodes I just watched made me ball my eyes out, in a sad/happy way.
It’s super cute, and has this teacher Yamaguchi and she is the heir to a Yakuza family, who instead decided to pursue a career in teaching and is currently teaching a bunch of delinquents with really nice hair!
Case in point (Sawada Shin aka the guy):
Seriously, if I could get my hair to look like that (never going to happen)…it would be fabulous!
It’s a little cliche at times, but I think it has good heart and who the eff doesn’t like an inspiring teacher story?! I know I had to watch that Edward James Olmos math one a bunch of times in school.
Her Yakuza “family” is so much fun as well! I love her grandfather, and totally want one that walks around in a kimono all the time. The henchmen are so enthusiastic it is precious. They’re the equivalent of puppies.
The outward romance is the only part I’m not crazy about, the one with Yamaguchi and the detective. All the women fight over him, which looks bad/desperate (I’m sure it’s all exaggerated) and after we find out he’s a cop, you know it’s not going to go the distance.
Also, taken out of context, and maybe even in context it sound bad, but I wish she would hit her students more. Ok, it does sound bad in any context, but I like when Yamaguchi shows she’s not a pushover and is really bad ass!
I’m wary of watching season 2 and season 3 of the JDrama, since it doesn’t have the same cast. I’ll keep it in mind, I do think I’ll watch the anime, after I get through reading the manga. :)
