Tonight’s American Dad! was pretty good, if only for exposing me to this band.
The Regal Twelve - Boudica – “The Celtic Queen” (AD 26-61)
Boudica was a famous ancient Celtic warrior-queen who led a revolt against the Roman rule of Britain in AD 60-61. She was Queen of the Iceni people, a British tribe who lived in what is today Norfolk and parts of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Seventeen years after the Romans conquered southern England, Boudica led a rebellion by native Britons against their Roman rulers in response to Roman brutality against her and her daughters. Members of other tribes joined her, and the rebellion was one of the largest the Roman Empire had ever seen.
Boudica’s warriors successfully defeated one Roman army and destroyed the capital of Roman Britain, which was then Colchester. Later her armies went on to destroy Londonium and Verulamium, burning everything in their path. Finally, she was defeated by a Roman army led by Caius Suetonius Paullinus. Her fate is unknown, but sources say she killed herself with poison following the defeat, so that the Romans could not capture her.
